Join the College's Outdoor Program as we partner with the Wilderness Medicine Training Center for a hybrid-Wilderness First Responder course. The course follows the industry standard for wilderness medical training and is designed specifically to provide you with the tools to make critical emergency care and evacuation decisions in remote locations. The course is open to students and non-students at the College. College of Idaho Students will receive 2 credits upon completion of the course.

WMTC’s hybrid distance learning project (DLP) Wilderness First Responder course requires the completion of a home study program and four online exams prior to attending a five-day practical session. The DLP Wilderness First Responder is designed for students who are able to study the didactic material on their own using: our field manual, “the Wilderness Medicine Handbook” and the course website. Access to a computer and the internet are mandatory; broadband/high-speed access is required. If you like self-study, are disciplined, computer literate, and have limited time to attend a practical session, then a hybrid DLP Wilderness First Responder is your best choice.

Current EMTs can also register for the WEMT module to upgrade their urban EMT to a Wilderness EMT; while the practical session is the same for both WFRs and WEMTs (Wilderness EMT), the WEMT website and tests contain more detailed anatomy,
